"Spooky,
The Electric Wonder" was always a crowd pleaser in the
"Browning Family Carnival" throughout the 1930s.
Back & forth across the country, she would wow the townspeople
with her ability to take electric shocks, and her shockingly
scandalous outfits. Lightning would course through her body,
and women would scream.
One fateful night in a nameless town, there was a man waiting
outside her trailer. As this was a regular occurrence after
a show, Spooky thought nothing of casually brushing off his
advances. When he persisted and offered her money, she smiled,
took his cash, and had Otto the Strong Man beat him up and
throw him out.
The next night, he came back. Spooky did not notice him until
she was already strapped in her electric chair. As her assistant
flipped the switch, he smiled. Something was terribly wrong.
It was too late when they pulled her off the chair. She had
taken too much electricity from the ungrounded device that
the man had fixed.
As she lay on the floor of the stage, Spooky turned her head
and saw him standing in the front row. "Worth every penny",
he whispered.
A rumble went through the crowd and sparks started to fall
from the lights above. People started to run towards the exit,
and Spooky, still on her stage, rose up on a bed of purple
electricity. Her eyes glowed with revenge and lightning shot
from her fingers.
She found the trembling human who was the source of her madness,
and with one touch from her glowing fingertips, he jolted
and the flesh started to smoke from his body.
She felt alive, and she wanted to share this feeling with
her carnival family. But they feared the new Spooky. No one
wanted to come close to her and she was cast out of her only
home.
Her sorrow took over and Spooky fell to her knees. The sadness,
rage, and regret surrounded her. She realized she had to make
a choice. She could use this power to seek revenge on those
who hurt her and drove her out. She could make them feel all
of her pain and more…or she could take this as a gift
and do something good with it.
Spooky went on a journey and learned to control her new powers.
She visited Shamen and Sages, and they renamed her "Faith".
The more she learned, the more her powers grew and developed.
The same electricity that caused so much destruction could
also heal and create.
She could send images with her mind, and she could travel
with thought alone.
Faith needed to share these gifts, and set out to find others
like her; powerful women who were at a crossroads between
healer & destroyer, sinner & saint. They would join
her on this journey, and would reach to those in need.
They would be The Spooky Girls.
